Some businesses require you to agree to their terms of service or provide an email address before they'll let you use their free Wi-Fi. Whereas hotspots are a physical location or device, Wi-Fi is a wireless technology that devices can use to send information to each other. If you have Wi-Fi at home, it's because you have a Wi-Fi router quarterbacking all of your wireless gadgets, and an internet service provider that's connecting that router to the internet. That's because Google Home and Nest Wi-Fi malfunctions could be caused by a changed internet password, a low-speed internet connection, or a low signal from a router. It could even be caused by an out-of-date version of the Home app.

Should I use my smartphone, or a separate hotspot device?

Google has been making a transition to the Google Home app for all its smart home devices ever since the Nest brand was formed. Now, the Google WiFi app is going away for good and you'll manage all your devices from one central location. Technically, this isn’t an issue with Google Home, Netflix, your HDTV, your computer, a music streaming service, or any other device. Instead, it's simply the result of maxing out your available bandwidth. You'll see the Google Home device's Wi-Fi settings.

Some locations, like libraries, are generally a given for free public Wi-Fi, but if you're not using a Wi-Fi finder app, it's a good idea to call first to make sure. If you're still unable to connect, visit the Google Home setup and help web page for more information. Move the Google Home speaker closer to the wireless router.

And yes, if you're somewhere like a coffee shop, it'd be polite to buy a pastry or a cup of joe while you're at it. Apps like these will display a map of your area with a list of free public Wi-Fi or hotspots available. Most will also let you track login requirements and hotspot reviews, too.

You'll still be able to view your network status using the Google WiFi app, but that's about it. After that date, you'll have to add new devices and access settings for existing devices using only the Google Home app.

How to Migrate From Google WiFi to Google Home

My Google WiFi gear is working fine, but I can't administrate it, because it doesn't show up in the Google Home App. And now the Google WiFi app, which was perfectly useful before Google killed it off, can't see it either. If I open a web page to the IP address of the Google WiFi gear, it still tells me to install the Google WiFi App, not the Google Home App. So my gear works and my network is fine, but I can't control it in any way.
